P/F SANDSHIP is a family business founded in 1949 by Gordon Midjord, the grandfather of the present chairman of the board, Gordon Martin Midjord. At the time, the company was called P/F Sandgrevstur. It is therefore the 3rd generation that leads the company today.
Between these two, it was Petur Midjord, known as Rikku Petur, who together with his wife Ása (b. Simonsen) managed the company until the early 2000s, when their son Gordon Martin Midjord took over.
When the company started, the main activity was pumping sand and gravel, which was sold to businesses and private customers. A significant part of the work was dredging port areas, building new quays and similar projects.
Over time the company developed and its activities grew. Business mainly covers shipping, logistics and dredging.
SANDSHIP has also been involved in fishing. Over the years the company has independently owned and operated 3 fishing vessels and been a part owner of a fourth.
SANDSHIP currently owns and operates 6 cargo vessels, and also charters other vessels for its operations. In recent years a greater emphasis has been placed on working abroad, and today all the vessels are employed outside the Faroe Islands.
The name changed from Sandgrevstur to SANDSHIP in 2019, when the company turned 70. The logo was changed at the same time.
